Keep Ants Out Of Your Pantry: What You Need To Do
Ants may be harmless pests, but they can be a pain to deal with if you have them in your home. Ants can bring their friends, and their friends, and their friends and so on until you have an infestation in your home of these "harmless" pests. To help keep ants out of your home, and especially away from your pantry and your food, read on for helpful tips you can use.
1. Keep Food Prep Areas Clean
The food preparation areas of your home are going to be the areas where ants will be most attracted to. Keep these areas clean and tidy by putting away food, wiping counters, and scrubbing away grease and oil splatters around your stove, on your cabinets, and on your counters. If you keep these areas dirty, you're most likely to get ants at some point or some other type of pest. Wipe food prep areas down with soapy water or disinfectant spray that can help cut through the grease and oils.
2. Keep Your Pantry Clean And Tidy
Your pantry should be kept clean and tidy to prevent ants from invading the food in your pantry. Placing open packages of food inside plastic air-tight containers is going to help prevent ants from getting inside and can prevent them from smelling that food as well. Wipe down your pantry as well, as some foods may have leaked out onto your pantry shelves such as bottles of oil or syrup bottles. Also, be sure to wipe down these bottles often as well.
3. Make Repairs To Your Kitchen
If you have a leak in your kitchen sink, or you have a gap in the opening of your back door, or you have a broken seal around your kitchen window, it can result in ants in your kitchen eventually. If you can, make these repairs or hire someone to do so to prevent ants from getting into your kitchen.
4. Set Baits
Set baits around your kitchen to attract the ants and to kill them. Leave the baits where they are away from small children and pets, to prevent ingesting the poison inside the baits. These can help get rid of some of the ants in your pantry, but if you have a large infestation you need to hire a pest control company to help.
Most ants are harmless, especially most household ants, but even if they're harmless, you still don't want them in your home. Hire an ant control service to get rid of your ant problem.
