Is Your Home Being Overrun by Mice? What to Do

It may have started with one mouse that found food or water in your home, but then he led the rest of his colony into your home, and now it's being overrun by mice. With mice will come bacteria from their feces and urine, as well as other pests such as fleas and possibly even cockroaches. If you have mice, even if you believe it's just one mouse, there's a good chance you have a lot of mice. If you do, there are a few things you need to do. Read on for helpful information.

1. Call an Exterminator

You need to call an exterminator to come to your home and help you figure out where the mice are coming in from. You may be able to do this on your own, but an exterminator is going to be able to do a more thorough job. An exterminator will go through your home with a flashlight to find the entry point(s) where these pests are getting into your home. Call an exterminator and start getting rid of these pests.

2. Start Finding Entry Points

In the meantime, you can start looking for entry points on your own. Use a flashlight to see if you see any holes in your siding, around doors or windows, or in your crawl space, attic, or basement walls. If you can see light coming in anywhere, you need to repair these areas. Even if they seem like very tiny holes, you need to repair them to prevent more mice from entering your home.

3. Clean Your House

Clean up areas where mice may find food such as counters, floors, and cooking or food prep areas. Clean with bleach wipes or dish soap and water to remove grease and oil buildup, as well as crumbs and spills or stuck-on food that mice may find enticing. Do a deep clean of your home to prevent feeding these pests any further.

4. Seal Your Food

In the meantime, you should also put away your food into air-tight containers until you are sure the mice are all gone. Seal up the food and remove all food from your counters such as bread, fruits, and vegetables. Seal all of your food, especially easy to access pantry food that is already opened and that mice can get to.

If you have a problem with mice in your home, it's only a matter of time before you have a major problem with mice or other pests as well. Call companies like Quality  Termite &  Pest Control Inc to learn how to get rid of the pests in your home.
