Flies Everywhere? What You Can Do To Help Keep Them Out Of Your Home And Away From Your Yard

Flies can be a nuisance. One or two may not be too bad, but when you have a lot of them, it can be a pain to deal with. They fly into your home, so not only do you have to deal with them outside, but you have to deal with them inside too. If you have a fly problem, there's a reason why they're there. Read on for reasons why you have flies and what you can do about them to get rid of them and keep them away.

Why Are They There?

The flies are coming into your yard for a reason. Some are just passing through looking for food, but if you have a lot there, there's something close by that they have found to feed on. If you have a dog or an outside cat, there may be feces nearby that needs to be cleaned up and removed from your yard. Clean your yard to remove the feces, which may be attracting the flies. Other things that can attract flies include garbage or a dead animal in the yard.

What Can You Do?

Keep your garbage can closed and all garbage sealed in bags. The less they can smell or get to, the less they will be in your yard. Take a close look around your yard to see if there is anything else attracting these pests to your yard and remove it from the yard. To keep these pests from getting into your yard, be sure you keep your doors and windows closed and sealed. Make sure you don't have any holes in your window or door screens where the flies can get inside. Use a zipper bag filled with water and a few pennies inside, then hang the bag near your door. It can keep flies away, as the shine from the pennies in the water can give off colors they don't like. Keep food in your home covered and in airtight containers. Keep produce in your refrigerator to prevent flies from being attracted to food in your home. Use a fly-swatter to kill any flies in your home.

Flies come in from outside. Be sure your exterior is kept clean and tidy, and you aren't giving them anything to feed on. Hire a pest control service near you if you have a fly problem so you can get rid of these pests for good.
