Humane Ways To Get Rid Of Geese In Your Yard

Geese are not a threat to humans, although they can be territorial when they feel threatened. They are a major nuisance, as they leave droppings everywhere they go and this can be a major mess. Getting rid of geese is something you can try to do on your own, or you can hire a pest control company to help you solve this problem for you to prevent other geese flocks from moving into your yard once the others leave. Read on for a few humane ways to help you get rid of geese in your yard.

Scare Them Away

Scaring geese away is something you can do to get rid of them. Decoys of owls, snakes, coyotes, or even dogs can all be used, but they have to be moved once in a while to keep the geese from noticing that they aren't a threat to them. You can also scare them away with a real dog, but the dog shouldn't harm these pests in any way. You want them to fly off and leave the area, and a well-trained dog will be able to get them to do just that.

Use A Chemical Goose Repellant

Using a chemical repellant will help get rid of these pests and keep them away. Simply follow the instructions on the chemical repellant and use it around the perimeter of your yard. It works as a fence around your property. This type of repellant can be found at most hardware stores.

Reduce Nesting Areas

Geese that are nesting may be more difficult to get rid of. Cut back tall grasses that geese like to use for nesting and make the area less attractive to them in order to keep them away. If they are staying or they continue to return, it's because they like what they are seeing on your property. Tall grasses around a pond for instance can be a dream nesting area for the geese. Remove the grasses and plant something else instead, or just get rid of the tall grasses altogether.

If you have geese in your yard or on your property, you know what a nuisance they can be. The droppings are like land mines you have to tip-toe around and the smell can be difficult to have to deal with. Hire a pest control company to come up with a plan to get control of this problem for you.
